June 2009

Rocks at Dunlop on a dreary day.

Freezing cold here, off in the distance was a fast disappearing rainbow, despite edging down a muddy dirt road, I just missed the shot. Patience paid off as sunlight poked through, delivering a healthy dose of drama.

National Museum of Australia - taken at 28mm to accentuate angles.

Lake Ginninderra trees in low winter sunlight.

Porsche Cayman S

Wetland area at rear of Forde, ACT. This tree stood out with filtered winter sunlight adding to its form. The challenge was to reach a decent vantage point without being covered in kangaroo poop, a sea of it to negotiate in a soft field. I took about 50 shots in different light before settling on this shot - the colour version temperature is as-shot.

Fountain outside Canberra Centre - somebody added bubble bath....

Secret door

I was on my way to work in thick fog, photo opportunity time - so headed for Lake Burley Griffin. Made it to work eventually. 2CN Radio were running a Canberra Winter Photo contribution on their website, some fantastic entries; here are my efforts.

Lake Burley-Griffin, 10th May 2009

70's Jag - similar to the car Arthur Daley drove in Minder.

Pumpkinology

Lake Tuggeranong - 24th May 2009, the leaves on their last days before winter, against a diffuse sky caught my eye. I like this shot as is, and have resisted the temptation to view it in my favourite medium, black and white.

Sunny day at Ainslie. The beer kegs and sun bleached bench very fn Aussie.

Some more Autumn struck trees.

April 2009

Here are a few shots that I've taken in April.

Sat 4th April

Dickson Wed 8th

Good Friday - Korean Uniting Church in Braddon, ACT - the light on the front of the building caught my eye

Sat 18th - amazing thing about this shot was hand-holding the camera steady at 1/5th second exposure, unheard of eh...

Sun 19th - Lake Burley-Griffen

Mon 27th April - view across Molonglo Valley from Stockdale Drive, it was freezing and damp and damn windy and about to storm. You can see a sleet/rain shower about 2km into the distance.

My friend Richard liked this shot, he printed it for his fridge door, then, took a photo to show me.

Autumn time at Lake Tuggeranong

Almost perfectly still water for reflections.

Here is a side-view of Lake Tuggeranong's spillway - also see here.

I was aiming for a subtle b&w tonal sky similar to this U2 album cover.
Image 1920 pixels width to suit widescreens. Click here for a 1024 pixel version.

Some random autumn leaves - look hard enough to see my tire impression in the first leaf set, I went 20 metres past before the lighting and photo-op registered in my mind. I reduced the chance for colour blowout in these shots by assigning a Joseph Holmes colour work space.
